On June 25 the Delaware law enforcement community held a ceremony and demonstration to dedicate new the Mobile Tactical Trainer (MTT) system at the Delaware State Training Center just north of Smyrna on Clark Farm Road.

Charles Byron Ross Sr. of Clayton died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Bayhealth Medical Center-Kent General Hospital, Dover. Celebration of Life services will be held at the Smyrna Church of Christ, 1630 Joe Goldsborough Road, Smyrna on Sunday, July 5 at 3 p.m., where friends may call one hour earlier. William I. Kidwell will officiate. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna.

Delaware lawmakers have voted to repeal the “bottle bill,” a 5-cent deposit placed on bottled beverages that could be redeemed if the consumer returned the empty bottle to the store because it wasn't effective in improving recycling rates. The House also approved a bill that overhauls the Violent Crimes Compensation Board.

Robert E. Halsey, of Smyrna, passed away at home on Tuesday, June 30, 2009. He was 73. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Friday, July 3 at St. Polycarp Catholic Church, Ransom Lane and South Street, Smyrna. Friends may call at the church Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. and again on Friday at 10 a.m. Interment will be privately held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Newark.

The Road Aces Car Club will host its monthly Cruise Night in Smyrna on Saturday, July 4 from 5 to 9 p.m. at the club sponsor’s location, SportZone Restaurant located at 235 Stadium Street in the Gateway North Shopping Center near Food Lion. There’s easy access from Route 13 or Route 1, exit 114.
