Carol J. Cornelius, 54, of Bear, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at her residence with her sister by her side.


Carol J. Cornelius, 54, of Bear, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at her residence with her sister by her side.

Born in Wilmington on July 24, 1953, she was the daughter of Joan (Easley) Cornelius and the late William E. Cornelius.

She was a graduate of Widener University with an associate degree in business management and attended Delaware College of Art & Design.
She was a member of Christiana Presbyterian Church in Newark.

Carol worked as a security guard for 8 years at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington. For more than 20 years, she worked for several florists in various positions within the Pennsylvania and Delaware areas where she enjoyed working with and meeting the public. 

She loved helping others and took great pride in volunteering at C-Line Stables, a center for therapeutic and educational riding, in Townsend. During the warmer months, she looked forward to hosting yearly yard sales.

In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Cornelius.

She leaves many wonderful memories to her mother, Joan Cornelius of Greenwood; a sister, Rubyann Durante and her husband, Lamont, of Martinez, Georgia; two brothers, Jim Cornelius and his wife, Jan, of Leipsic, and Robin Cornelius and his wife, Sue, of Smyrna; a sister-in-law, Eleanor Cornelius of Bear; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 24 at 4:30 p.m., at Christiana Presbyterian Church, 15 North Old Baltimore Pike, Newark, where family and friends were asked to visit one hour prior to the service.  Interment was private.
