Geraldine M. “Gerry” Deets, 69, of Smyrna and formerly of Camden, New Jersey and Bensalem, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at Broadmeadow Nursing Home in Middletown.

Born on January 11, 1939 in Camden, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Florence (Cogswell) Deets.

Ms. Deets was a bookbinder her entire career, retiring from Oxford Bindery in Philadelphia. She was a member of the Graphic Communications International Union Local 14-M.

In her earlier years, Gerry, as she was affectionally known, was actively involved with the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts of America and was active with the Band Boosters in Bensalem, Pennsylvania.

She enjoyed being with her family and in particular, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took great pride in purchasing a small, inexpensive, yet fun gift, for her children and their spouses every Christmas. Above all the Christmas gifts exchanged, they looked forward to mom’s “special” Christmas gift, which became a family tradition and created memories that will last a lifetime.

She is survived by her three loving children, Tammy Zeigler and her husband Ken of Turnersville, New Jersey, Kennith Jackson and his wife Cindy of Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, and Doris Froelich and her husband Bob of Middletown; seven grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; a sister, Joan Davis of St. Mary’s, West Virginia; a brother, Charles “Bucky” Deets of Bellmawr, New Jersey; her beloved Boston Terrier, Candy, and her precious cat, Cookie.

Mass of Christian Burial was offered at noon on Friday, August 22 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 321 E. Main Street in Middletown. Family and friends were asked to visit from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on August 22 at the Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad Street, Middletown.  Interment will be private.

In honor of Ms. Deets’ love for pets, her family suggests memorial contributions to Paws For Life, 284 Great House Farm Lane, Chesapeake City, MD 21915.

Arrangements by Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home, Middletown.
