Residents can discover treasures great and small at Found Object Studio at 41 South Main Street in downtown Smyrna.
“I’m constantly changing my look,” said owner Melaine Minear. “There’s something for everyone. You can find something neat for a dollar and that’s something.”
Minear said she opened the studio, which was unveiled in October, because she has been an art enthusiast ever since she was a child. She attributes her interest to her parents who first introduced her to the art of handcrafting.
At Found Object, she now offers a wide variety of handcrafted gifts in different price ranges.
She decided on the name of the studio because it describes what she sells – an eclectic mix. Minear said she doesn’t want to have the same store that everyone else has.
“I really like Smyrna,” she said. “I hope to be a vital part of the community.”
She likes the small-town atmosphere and wants to keep the history alive. She wants to preserve historical buildings in town.
“The town has a nice feeling,” she said. “I want to help the downtown revive itself. The people here are truly dedicated to their town, to preserving and supporting their culture.”
Minear plans to open a bed and breakfast in the house, keeping the Found Object shop downstairs. She is hoping to have the bed and breakfast up and running by the spring.
Hours of operation for Found Object Studio are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday from 1-5 p.m., Thursday from 1- 9 p.m., and Saturday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. or by appointment.
