Cooldog Concert Series will host its fifth New Year’s Eve celebration December 31 at 8 p.m., featuring headliners “We’re About 9” with opening act Casey MacKenzie.

“We’re About 9” has been described as “downright superb” songwriters and performers by George Graham, program director at WVIA-FM.

“Their material is literate, tasteful and often charmingly wistful, and their musicianship and vocal harmonies are world class,” Graham said.

Formed in 1999, when Brian, Katie and Pat all stumbled upon the same open mic night in historic Ellicott City, Maryland, they quickly discovered their shared admiration for complex songwriting and wicked harmonies. As they grew as a trio and strengthened their unique sound, they won over audiences with their distinctive, edgy, fun and articulate arsenal of charm.

The group members just released second full-length studio recording, “Paperdust :: Stardust.”

Opening act Casey MacKenzie is the brainwork of Delaware native Erin Casey, who, at the ripe age of 17, has been composing music for a little over two years and singing for nine. Casey MacKenzie music can be described as soft and whimsical, but upfront like jazz. She draws her inspiration from many artists like Billie Holiday, Sara Bareilles, Dar Williams, Allison Krauss, and Regina Spektor.

Cooldog Concert Series is a house concert series, held in a private home near Kenton with a professional-quality sound system. Guests bring a cash donation to pay the band, as well as a covered dish snack or dessert to share. The donation for this event is $20 for adults, or $15 for ages 10-18 and active military personnel.

All are invited to introduce themselves to the hosts by RSVPing with personal contact information. Directions will be provided with RSVP.

All the money collected from the guests goes to the musicians. Cooldog is neither a business nor a not-for-profit, rather it is a very expensive hobby.
