With the 2009 Smyrna High football season at an end, members of the team were recognized by the Henlopen Conference and by the team’s coaching staff for their efforts on and off the football field. Eight Smyrna High football players received all-Henlopen Conference recognition at season’s end.

 


With the 2009 Smyrna High football season at an end, members of the team were recognized by the Henlopen Conference and by the team’s coaching staff for their efforts on and off the football field.

Eight Smyrna High football players received all-Henlopen Conference recognition at season’s end.

Senior offensive tackle Matt Nelson and senior linebacker Kossivi Woluko were both named first team all-conference in the Northern Division.

The following players were named second team all-conference: sophomore running back Carlton Nash; junior Demetrius Williams, at both tight end and defensive tackle; senior Terrant Morrison at defensive back; senior Chris Oscar at defensive back; and Cody Malec at kicker.

Junior center Ryan Rife received all-conference honorable mention.

At the team’s awards ceremony, academic awards were presented to the player with the highest GPA in the first marking period for each grade. The academic award winners were: ninth grade, Colin Hoveln; 10th grade, Carlos Velez; 11th grade, Demetrius Williams; 12th grade and overall highest GPA, Kossivi Woluko.

The Iron Eagle Award was presented to Demetrius Williams for his continued effort and commitment in the weight room.

The coaching staff also presented Eagle Pride awards to individuals who best represent what the coaches want in a football player. The Eagle Pride award winners were: Kossivi Woluko, Matt Nelson, Ryan Rife, Chris Oscar and Carlton Nash.

For the first time, the team also awarded the Coach Richard Heath Memorial Eagle Pride award, which went to Cody Steele for his commitment to the program and his unselfish attitude he kept throughout his career.
