A 21-year-old woman lost control of her Suzuki Grand Vitara, ran off the road, and crashed into Star Hill Elementary south of Dover this morning, March 24.

The accident happened at the school on Voshell's Mill Road at about 7:30 a.m., before any students were in the building, according to Delaware State Police.

Saintalia Jean, 21, of Voshell's Mill Road was driving west on the road, when she began swerving in and out of both lanes. She then drove over a curb and onto the school property before striking the school located on the north side of the roadway. The automobile crashed into an unoccupied classroom where it came to a rest.

Jean was the only person in the vehicle. She was taken by ambulance to Kent General Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

Police did not say why Jean lost control of her vehicle, but they did say alcohol wasn't a factor. She was wearing a seatbelt.

She was charged with for inattentive driving, unsafe speed, and no proof of insurance, police said.
