A man crossing the road near his home was struck and killed by a pickup truck north of Middletown this morning, March 25.

The accident happened at about 5:30 a.m., according to Delaware State Police. 

Edward Apau, 65, started to cross Cedar Lane Road near his home, just as a pickup truck was approaching.

The driver of the pickup, Brian Wilfong, 42, of Middletown, couldn't stop in time.

The pickup hit Apau, pushing him off the road and into a large rock.

Apau was pronounced dead at the scene. Police don't know why he was crossing the roadway at 5:30 in the morning.

Wilfong, the driver of the pickup, was not injured.

Charges are not expected to be filed, police said.
