Emergency crews are searching for a father and son in the Delaware Bay after their overturned boat was spotted near Port Mahon on Saturday, April 24 at about 4:45 p.m.

David Whitehair, 40, and his son, David Whitehair Jr., 17, of Felton are missing.

This investigation revealed the boat was recently purchased by David Whitehair. Allegedly, Whitehair and his son were supposed to go on a chartered fishing trip Friday; however, the trip was cancelled due to poor weather conditions.

Whitehair decided to go anyway on his own boat and he took his son. He was last seen Friday at 5 p.m.

Police did not learn about this information until Saturday when investigators went to his home looking for him.

U.S. Coast Guard personnel, Little Creek Fire Company, the DSP Dive Team and DNREC Fish and Wildlife responded to the Port Mahon area Saturday after the report of the capsized vessel. They found the boat, but no one with the boat.  A search and rescue operation ensued, but no one was located.

Police said the operation was shut down Saturday evening but resumed Sunday.

Police are asking anyone who sees Whitehair or his son to contact State Police Troop 3 at 302-697-4455 or call 911.
