John E. Edwards, the inmate who ran away from the Webb Community Corrections Center in Wilmington June 16, has been apprehended and is back in Department of Correction (DOC) custody.
DOC staff apprehended Edwards June 17 at 10:45 a.m., in a residence on South Claymont Street in Wilmington.
An inmate serving a violation of probation sentence ran away from the Webb Community Corrections Center in Wilmington to a Jeep that sped away Wednesday night.
At about 6 p.m., John E. Edwards sprinted from the building and jumped into a waiting vehicle that sped away. Correctional officers chased Edwards to the parking lot, but the vehicle, a dark-colored Jeep Cherokee without a license plate, was already gone.
Edwards is a 22-year-old white male who is 5’09” and weighs 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, dark-colored basketball shorts with a white stripe, and white sneakers.
He was serving a six-month sentence for violation of probation on an original charge of third-degree burglary. Edwards arrived at the Webb Center earlier in the day Wednesday. His last known address is in Newark.
