The free Kent County Young Waterfowlers program and hunter safety training will start in Sept. 14 in Smyrna. Sessions will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays through the end of the month from 7 to 9 p.m., at instructor Larry Poore’s pole barn.


The free Kent County Young Waterfowlers program and hunter safety training will start in Sept. 14 in Smyrna. Sessions will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays through the end of the month from 7 to 9 p.m., at instructor Larry Poore’s pole barn.

Students ages 12 to 18 are welcome to attend this free program to earn the NRA hunter safety certification and the Delaware hunter safety card.

Topics of basic hunter education will include safe gun handling, ammunition, pistol, muzzleloader, archery, survival skills, boating, wildfires, and some dog handling and trapping skills. The Young Waterfowlers program consists of waterfowl identification, hunting techniques, decoys, calling, water safety, blinds, and skeet shooting.

The course will conclude with a hunt at Bombay Hook Wildlife Refuge and a banquet.
