For the sixth year in a row, Clayton Fire Company was judged the best appearing company without music at the annual Delaware Volunteer Firefighter’s Association parade in Dover.
This year marks the 15th time that Clayton Fire Company has claimed that award.
“It was especially rewarding this year with Kevin going out as president of the DVFA,” said Fire Chief William “Skip” Carrow. “That added significance to it.”
Kevin Wilson, the outgoing DVFA president, is the fifth person from the Clayton Fire Company to hold that position.
The previous company member in that post was James L. Cubbage, who was DVFA president in 2001.
“It’s a pride thing,” said Wilson on the DVFA parade. “We do this as a hobby. What really matters is the 364 other days of the year we protect the citizens of the district.”
Clayton Fire Company’s awards at the 2010 DVFA parade:
• Best appearing company without music
• Best appearing Pre-Teen Fire Prevention Queen – Samantha Sawyer
• 2nd best appearing fire company color guard
• 2nd best appearing pumper/rescue
• 3rd best appearing aerial device
