The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a residential garage fire that occurred early this morning, Tuesday, Sept. 21, just southwest of Kenton.


The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a residential garage fire that occurred early this morning, Tuesday, Sept. 21, just southwest of Kenton.

The fire was reported at 2:16 a.m. in the 700 block of Short’s Corner Road between Judith Road and Arthursville Road (Rt. 11), according to B. Scott Bullock, Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal.

The Hartly Fire Company responded to the 911 call from the homeowner. When firefighters arrived, a vehicle was on fire near the home and a 1,500 sq. ft. detached garage behind the residence was on fire.

Assistance was requested from the Clayton, Cheswold, and Marydel fire companies. The fire was placed under control at 3:43 a.m. with no injuries reported. The fire caused severe fire damage to the structure and several vehicles stored inside and near the building.

Damages are estimated at $50,000, Bullock said.
