John L. Kosis, 76, of Smyrna, died on Monday, Oct. 25, 2010. He was born in Ernest, Pa., the son of the late Tony and Mary (Zelonsis) Kosis.


John L. Kosis, 76, of Smyrna, died on Monday, Oct. 25, 2010. He was born in Ernest, Pa., the son of the late Tony and Mary (Zelonsis) Kosis.

John was a veteran of the Korean War, and was a member of the Teamster Union Local 707 as a mechanic. He worked for over twenty years as a custodian for Saint Raphael’s Parish in Livingston, N.J.

John was a participant in the Rite of Christian Initiation for the Catholic Church where he served as a sponsor for candidates entering the church. He was a facilitator for All God’s Children, a program which provided a safe environment for children who suffered loss through death or divorce.

He is a member of the Knights of Columbus Brother Vincent Council 7517 at St. Polycarp Church, Smyrna. He will be ever missed by his family, but he now at last is pain-free.
John is survived by his loving wife Joyce (Spillane) Kosis, his beloved daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Richard DeZao; and also the “apple of his eye,” his four grandchildren, Andrew, Anthony, Angeline, and Nicholas.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Friday, Oct. 29 at 12 noon, at St. Polycarp Catholic Church, Ransom Lane and South St., Smyrna. Friends may call Thursday, Oct. 28 from 2-4 p.m., and again from 7-9 p.m., at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna.

Interment will be in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, at a later date.
