  • Residents urged to come out for community branding workshops

  • When you think of Smyrna, what comes to mind? Is it the historic buildings downtown…the Smyrna Eagles mascot…the tradition of Citizens’ Hose Company? That’s what the Town of Smyrna and the consultants of Arnett Muldrow & Associates are trying to decide.

The town and the consultants will be holding workshops on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at town hall in hopes of coming up with a community brand. It is the hope of the town that people in the community will come out to the workshops to give their input of the Smyrna community brand.
The way the process will work is there will be workshops on Oct. 18, and then on Thursday, Oct. 20 the consultants will reveal the community brand.
“The advantage we have is that we can ask the community what makes Smyrna unique compared to someone else,” Town Manager Dave Hugg said in previous discussions about the project.
Once a brand is chosen logos, letterheads, banners and other products will be produced. Other towns that have gone through the same process include Newark, Middletown, and Milton.
The community-branding project was discussed during a recent Long Range Planning Committee meeting. During the meeting, Manager of Planning & Zoning Janet Vinc said she’d like the branding of Smyrna to become part of a larger process and for the theme to be included when discussing future development in town such as the area north of Duck Creek.
