  • The Smyrna Middle School wrestling team won their 100th consecutive match Monday afternoon in a 46-28 win over Milford Middle School.
The 100 straight wins dates back to the 2001-2002, said head coach Steve Stewart.
"I feel great," Stewart said. "We consistently do the same thing year after year."
Stewart contributes the success of the Smyrna Middle School program to the Smyrna Little Wrestlers program, which Stewart said has been a good feeder for the wrestling team.
The winning streak is the longest winning streak in middle school Henlopen Conference History, Stewart said.
Smyrna previously had the longest undefeated record from the late 1970s through the mid 1980s when the team went 98-0-2.
Up next for the Eagles is a match Thursday, Dec. 15 at Laurel Central Middle School. The match starts at 4 p.m.
