  • Maude S. Lucks of Dover, DE, formerly of Smyrna, DE passed away at Kent General Hospital in Dover on Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2012. She was 85.
Mrs. Lucks was born June 21, 1926 in Smyrna, the daughter of the late Clarence and Ora Faucett Scuse.
She graduated from John Bassett Moore School in Smyrna and worked for many years with the Diamond State Telephone Company in Dover, moving on to the State of Delaware. Maude worked in the state capital and motor fuel tax divisions, retiring from her career there. Never one to sit back, Maude then enjoyed 15 years with the Smyrna Rest Stop, helping tourists find their way, and telling them of the many delights of her favorite state, Delaware.
Maude was a gentle and kind woman, making friends easily and always having a kind word or helping hand.  Her priorities were her family and the love of nature, feeding birds, in particular her favorite, a red bird.
She was a long-time member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Smyrna, where she enjoyed singing in the choir.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Lucks, and a brother, Clarence Scuse.
She is survived by two sons, William A. Lucks of Lewes, DE and Gary R. Lucks of Salisbury, MD; a daughter, Karen K. Greenhaugh of Milton, DE; two sisters, Dorothy Wallace of Dover, DE and Margaret Ann Ware of Hebron, MD; a brother, George E. Scuse of Smyrna, and grandchildren, Beau Lucks of Ithaca, NY, Meredith K. Lucks of Austin, TX, and Chris Casazza of Salisbury, MD, and Stella Lucks of Ithaca, NY, her great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012 at 1 p.m. in Asbury United Methodist Church, located at 20-24 West Mt. Vernon St., Smyrna, where friends may call at the church at 11 a.m.
