Dorothy H. Crouch, 86, formerly of Smyrna, DE, passed away peacefully early Saturday, March 3, 2012, in her home at State Street Assisted Living in Dover, DE.
Born September 16, 1925, in Brownsville, PA, she graduated in 1943 from Brownsville High School and married Harry B. Crouch Jr. in 1946.
Mrs. Crouch settled in Smyrna in 1965. Prior to moving to Delaware, she lived with her husband and two children in many places throughout the U.S., including 4 years in the Territory of Alaska. She moved to Smyrna in 1965 and began working at the Delaware Hospital for Chronically Ill in 1966 where she worked until her retirement in 1983.
She enjoyed handicrafts such as making afghans and travelling the world. She has been a longtime member of Peace Lutheran Church in Smyrna, DE, where she served as treasurer for many years. She ate her lunch faithfully every day at the Smyrna Diner where she made many strong and lasting friendships.
Mrs. Crouch was predeceased by her parents, Harry E. and Laura King Hamme; her sister, Katharine Johnstun; her husband, Harry B. Crouch Jr., Capt (Ret) USAF, and her son, Harry B. Crouch III.
She is survived by her daughter, Toni L. Crouch of Damariscotta, ME, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She will be greatly missed by her family, former co-workers, and friends, both long-time Smyrna families and newer friends at State Street.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, March 6 at 1 p.m., at Peace Lutheran Church, Smyrna, DE.
