Robert Harvey Poore of Smyrna, DE passed away on March 6, 2012 in Christiana Hospital. He was 83 years old.
Mr. Poore was the former owner of Poore’s Homemade Ice Cream Store. He also retired from Harness Racing as an owner and driver. Previous to that he was an ambulance driver for the American Legion in Wilmington. He also retired from the State of Delaware as a Federal Meat Inspector. The last job he held until his passing was for Willis Chevrolet driving cars.
Mr. Poore was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, as well as a past Post Commander, a member of the Moose Lodge in Camden, and VFW in Millington.
Mr. Poore loved to dance, play cards and dominos. He could be found dancing on Saturday nights at the VFW in Millington. He also loved to travel by car and RV. One of his favorite things to do was spend time with his family. He was a regular in the mornings at the Wagon Wheel restaurant where he met with a group of friends.
He is survived by his three children, Nancy of Newark, Ohio; Bobbi of Townsend, DE; and son Kenny of Newark, Ohio; six grandchildren, Pam and Mark Wisniewski, Alisha Gravatt, Jamie (Gravatt) Barczykowski, Edward and Eric Poore; four great grandchildren; and one great grandchild on the way.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 10 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call on Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in the Asbury Cemetery, Millington, MD.
