  • It’s time to start going through your closets, basements and garages! Put aside those things that you can no longer use but that some-one else will be thrilled to pick up for a bargain… and get ready for Smyrna’s Downtown Yard Sale on Saturday, May 12.
There will be a lot of visitors (and potential shoppers) on that date who will be attending the Rotary Club Car Show, the Duck Creek Horticulture Society’s Plant and Yard Sale and the Citizens' Hose Company’s 125th Anniversary Parade in Historic Downtown Smyrna.
So get ready for crowds roaming the streets of Smyrna looking for bargains!
Anyone who is hosting a sale can list their sale on the Smyrna Downtown Renaissance Association's downtown map by submitting their information at qcsjr@comcast.net or by telephone at 653-6449 to let shoppers know where sales are located.
While promoted as a yard sale, the actual sales are limited only by the imagination and law. Individuals, organizations and businesses are encouraged to have special promotions during the sale.
There are no set hours, but most visitors will be visiting the Car Show between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Also, given the nature of yard sales, it is probable that many individual households will not decide to participate until just a day or two before the sale dates.
While this is a non-sponsored event, meaning that it is not sponsored by any particular organization, the Smyrna Downtown Renaissance Association has agreed to promote the activities on that day. The Association is seeking volunteers to help coordinate and promote the event. If you are interested, contact Quentin Schlieder at 653-6449.
The Smyrna Downtown Renaissance Association is a nonprofit volunteer membership organization affiliated with the National Trust for Historic Preservation incorporated in the state of Delaware. The Association is dedicated to the preservation, revitalization and beautification of Historic Smyrna and stimulates an environment which assures that Smyrna is an attractive and safe place to live, shop, work and play.  For more information about the Association and a virtual tour of historic Smyrna, visit its website at www.downtownsmyrna.org.
