Mary S. McDonald, 88, of Smyrna, passed away peacefully at her home on March 24, 2012 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Czechoslovakia on January 15, 1924, to the late Stephen and Elizabeth Sabanosh. She was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. John D. McDonald, U.S. Navy Retired, and her brother John Sabanosh.
After retiring from the Navy in 1968, the McDonalds settled in Smyrna, Delaware. Mary worked for the Delaware Division of Social Services for 15 years. She was a member of the Red Hatters, and was a long-time volunteer at the Dover Air Force Base USO. Mary was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother who was an avid reader and an award winning baker.
Left to cherish her memory are her three children and spouses, Debbie and Kevin Williams, of Odenton, MD; Marybeth and Dwight Hastings, of Frankford, DE; and John and Cindy McDonald, of Virginia Beach, VA; and her four grandchildren; Beth Moore; Lindsey Beauchamp; Ashley Williams; and Brittany Williams.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, March 30 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, where friends may call at 10 a.m. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2465 Chesapeake City Road, Bear, DE.
