  • Jacqueline C. (Jackie) Sampere of Smyrna, DE, formerly of Clayton, DE, peacefully passed from this world on March 23, 2012 at the Delaware Hospice Center.
    Jackie was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 1, 1931, a daughter of the late Rose (Grosso) Brand and Genaro Lutz.
    She worked as a Secretary at Delaware Economic Development Office in Dover for 18 years and had formerly worked for many years at the Smyrna Times newspaper. She greatly enjoyed both jobs and her many co-workers.
    She was a member of St. Polycarp's Roman Catholic Church in Smyrna and formerly sang in the choir.
    Jackie enjoyed doing volunteer work at the Smyrna Opera House and Smyrna Library. She loved life, travel, family gatherings, and especially her grandchildren. Jackie befriended all she met and opened her home to all of her sons many friends. There was never a time that her home wasn't filled with laughter, love, and wonderful aromas from her kitchen.
    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel S. Sampere, who passed away in 2005 and son, Samuel S. Sampere Jr. in 1982.
    Jackie is survived by three sons Anthony Sampere and his wife Glynis, of Dover, DE; Michael Sampere and his wife, Cindy also of Dover, DE; Robert Sampere and his wife, Bonnie, of Virginia Beach, VA, a sister, Theresa Cava, of Philadelphia, PA and 3 grandchildren, Shannon Rose Sampere, Lauren Nicole Sampere, and Taylor Sampere.
    Friends may call Tuesday, March 27, 2012 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, 29 South Main Street, Smyrna, DE.
    A Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate her life will be held at St. Polycarps Roman Catholic Church, 135 Ransom Lane Smyrna, DE on Wednesday, March 28, at 11 a.m.
    Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Smyrna, DE.
