Smyrna Town Council is set to meet tonight, April 2 at 7:30 p.m. at Smyrna Town Hall.
Town Hall is located at 27 S. Market St. Plaza.
There are several items under old business as well as under new business.
Included under the old business is Councilman Anthony DeFeo's recommendation to video stream all committee meetings. The issue has been brought up at the last few council meetings but has failed to pass each time. DeFeo previously said he will continue to bring the measure up at council meetings.
Also under new business is a charter amendment regarding special elections and long-term borrowing. Smyrna Town Council had previously approved to send the town's charter changes to the General Assembly for approval. Included in the changes was an amendment to allow a member of council to run for mayor without giving up their council seat. Should the council person win, a special election is held for a new council member; If the member loses, they are still a member on council.
Under new business, council wll vote on a resolution in reference to a DEMEC supplemental aggreement. Council will also vote on whether or not to allow Town Manager Dave Hugg to go to USDA for funding for a Phase II of a North Duck Creek Water System and for him to use the town's redevelopment authority status to apply for USDA funding to offset costs in bring Legacy Distilling to Smyrna.
Council also will set the date for 'Meet the Candidates Night" and will give Hugg approval to award a bid for this year's grass mowing contract.
