A pavement project will mean daytime closures of Sunnyside Road beginning April 16 and Hickory Ridge Road beginning April 19.
COMPLETION TARGET Thursday, April 26
THE DETAILS Road projects in the Smyrna area will mean daytime closures of two roads, according to a Delaware Department of Transportation press release. The road closures will be for Sunnyside Road and Hickory Ridge Road from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. for each day the roads will be worked on.
The project reconstruction work done to these two roads will be a full-depth reclamation process. Work such as this rebuilds worn out asphalt pavements by recycling the existing roadway. The old asphalt and base materials are pulverized, mixed with cement and water, and compacted to produce a strong durable base for either an asphalt or concrete surface.
The work is environmentally friendly; Diamond Materials is the contractor for these improvements.
These are narrow roads, so there may be some delays for residents and school buses due to clearing of equipment from the roadway, but accommodations will be made for their access. The operation is weather sensitive and could be impacted by rain.
CONSTRUCTION SCHEDULE This project involving Sunnyside Road and Hickory Ridge Road will take place in four different parts as follows:
April 16 through Wednesday, April 18: Sunnyside Road between Rabbit Chase Lane and Route 300/Wheatley’s Pond Road. The eastbound detour is south on Hillyard Road, east on Brenford Road and north on Rabbit Chase lane.
