  • The Smyrna-Clayton Memorial Day parade and ceremony will be held on Monday, May 28.
    The parade will start at 10 a.m., with lineup at 9:30 a.m., on Market Street Plaza in front of the Smyrna Town Hall and Smyrna Post Office. The parade will turn east on Commerce Street, then north on Main Street, across Glenwood Avenue to Smyrna Municipal Park.
    The ceremony at the Veterans Monument at the park will follow the parade, featuring patriotic music, the raising of flags including flags for each branch of the military, speeches by local leaders, the honor volley, and the playing of “Taps.”
    The special guest speaker will be Brigadier General Scott E. Chambers, Assistant Adjutant General of the Delaware Army National Guard.
    In case of rain, the parade will be canceled, and the ceremony will be held at 10 a.m., at American Legion Post 14 Ambulance Hall on Glenwood Avenue in Smyrna.

    FLAGS NEEDED FOR VETERANS MONUMENT
    The Smyrna-Clayton Memorial Day ceremony organizers are requesting donations of flags for the Veterans Monument at Smyrna Municipal Park in time for the Memorial Day ceremony.
    Along with the American and Delaware flags, there are flags for each branch of the service flying at the monument.
