    Ronald H. Hoffecker, of Smyrna, passed away at home on May 4, 2012 after a long illness. He was 65.
    Ron was born July 20, 1946, the son of Virginia P. and George H. Hoffecker. He graduated from John Bassett Moore High School in 1964, Wesley College in 1966, and West Virginia Wesleyan College in 1968. He served as President of George H. Hoffecker, Inc., the family auto dealership, until his retirement in 2008.
    Ron loved his family, his fire department, and his Marine Corps. He joined the Citizens' Hose Company No. 1 Inc., on January 7, 1963. He served 25 years on its Board of Directors, and 19 years as a Fire Line Officer. The Citizens' Hose Company bestowed upon Ron one of its highest honors on January 4, 1999, naming him Chief Emeritus. Ron was affectionately known by his brother firefighters as “Pop Pop.” He was a life member of the department.
    Ron was a United States Marine after college graduation, serving in Marine Corps Finance, Kansas City, Missouri. He was honored by serving as an Honor Guard at the funeral services of President Dwight D. Eisenhower.
    Ron is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Alisha Hoffecker, of Dover; his brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Sharon Hoffecker, of Smyrna; two step-sons and their families, whom he considered his own, Scott Hudson, of Hockessin; and Todd Hudson, of Garnett Valley, PA; and a niece and nephew, Kristi Hoffecker and Brian Hoffecker, both of Smyrna.
    A viewing will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Matthews-Bryson Funeral Home, 123 W. Commerce St., Smyrna, from 6-9 p.m. Services will be held at 8 p.m. Burial will be private.
