  • The Howell System Wrestling camp will be back in town the week of July 8 to July 12 at Smyrna Middle School. The camp directors are successful high school coaches Kurt, Dicky and Brad Howell. This year, the Howells will bring in two featured clinicians along with numerous local coaches and clinicians.
The top billing will be Sheldon Thomas, Delaware’s first NCAA champion. Sheldon runs personal clinics through the year. He has coached many of Delaware’s state champions and is well known as an expert technician. His ability to break down technique allows even the novice wrestler to grasp advanced skills.
Isaac Ramaswamy is the second featured clinician. Isaac was a Greco Roman national champion and a member of the U.S. National team seven times. He is also the wrestling coach of Sachem High School, a perennial national powerhouse.
The Howell System Camps are well known for their blend of technique and competition. Campers are divided into two teams who will wrestle each other in dual meets as well as compete in different competitions every day.
There are two groups: the Technique Camp and the Freestyle Greco-Roman Camp. The Freestyle and Greco Roman Camp is for those athletes training for the national tournament in Fargo and any other wrestler looking for an intense training block. The technique camp is for all the other wrestlers ages six through high school.
The cost for commuters is $200 (meals included). Commuter drop off is 8:30 to 9 a.m. and pick up is 4 p.m. For information or a camp form, go to Smyrnawrestling.com or call Kurt Howell at (302) 745-7437 or Dicky Howell at (302) 423-9623.
