The Smyrna Public Library Guild (also known as the Friends of the Duck Creek Regional Library) held their annual members meeting at Old Greenspring Manor on Massey Church Road in Smyrna, on June 9. The event was hosted by Todd Nelson.
The Guild reported on the purchase of the site for the new library, gave their annual financial report, and heard an inspirational keynote address by Dave Tiberi, well-known Delaware athlete, philanthropist, and motivational speaker.
The Guild elected officers for the coming year: President, Tim Sparrow; 1st Vice President, Larry Thornton; 2nd Vice President, Solomon McCloskey, Secretary, Jonette Oldham; Treasurer, Dana Wattay; and Archivist, Ann Henning. They also welcomed new Board of Directors members, Kathleen Hawkins and William Oldham.
Refreshments included delicious barbecue and beans prepared by Dave Bruner, and other picnic fare provided by members of the Board. The members were entertained by Dana Wattay on guitar, piano and vocals.
The afternoon ended with the traditional dessert “bake-off” fundraiser. Members voted on their favorite bakers’ offering with their spare change. Previous winners have included Trink McMillan and Arlette Gillis. This year’s official “Best Baker” was Kathleen Hawkins.
