  • What started out as a discussion on how to highlight the diversity of restaurants in Smyrna has turned into the Smyrna/Clayton Craft Beer, Wine & Food Festival. This first-year festival, which people hope will turn into a destination festival like that of Middletown’s Peach Festival, kicks off Saturday on South Market Street Plaza. The Smyrna Business Development Committee sponsors the event.
    EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
    1. The event will feature breweries like Dogfish Head and Fordhams, wine from the likes of Auburn Road Vineyards, and food from Smyrna’s own Sheridan’s Irish Pub, Karibbean Link and more.
Each person will get 10 tickets to sample the wine and beer; people buying tickets in advance will get 15 tickets for sampling.
    2. There may be drinking but that doesn’t mean the event can’t be a family outing. Kids in attendance can have fun at the children’s corner with face painting, a reptile show, inflatables and more.
    3. For adults, along with eating and drinking will be shopping as several artisans will be in attendance. Plus there will be entertainment from the likes of
WDSD’s Krista Cooper, and music by Brian Moore and Crossing Delmar.
    WHY SHOULD YOU GO?
“It’ll be good food, good drinks, good music,” said Jill Wolfe, a member of the sub-committee that planned the event.
Need another reason to check out the festival? It benefits a good cause as proceeds go to the Smyrna/Clayton July 4th Association to use for the Fourth of July events, including fireworks. It is the hope of the sub-committee planning the event that enough people will attend the festival each year that it’ll allow the association to be self-sufficient.
