  • Long-time assistant coach and former vice president of Smyrna-Clayton Pop Warner, Pat Ennis, has been named the successor to David Price Sr. as president.
Ennis has been with Smyrna-Clayton Pop Warner for 13 years, working closely with Price as an assistant coach and for the past 10 years as vice president.
During those years, Ennis has seen just how important Price has been to the organization.
“He has meant so much to Smyrna-Clayton Pop Warner with his unselfishness to do whatever was needed,” said Ennis. “From being at the field before a home game, two to two-and-a-half hours before the first game getting things ready, to unloading equipment after home games back to our building sometimes (on his own).”
Since Price joined Smyrna-Clayton Pop Warner, the organization has seen tremendous growth, something Ennis saw first-hand. Ennis gives a lot of credit to Price not only for the work he’s done on the football field but the impact he’s had on the community and its youth.
“I believe back when he first started with the organization, there was only one football team and cheer squad,” Ennis said. “Now we have four football teams and four cheer squads.  I also think that when people see how well the organization is run, that gives them a good feeling to bring their kids back into our program and allowing their kids to continue to grow in our program.”
Now, Ennis will take the reigns as president of Smyrna-Clayton Pop Warner. Ennis knows it’s a tall task following in the footsteps of someone as influential as Price.
“It is a great honor to take over for Dave. I have big shoes to fill,” said Ennis. “He has done so much for this organization. There are no words that can explain my deepest appreciation for all that he has done over the years.  I just hope I can continue to keep this organization at (the) high level that Dave has built for so long.”
