Herbert Hoover Knecht of Dover, DE, passed away at home on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the age of 83.
Mr. Knecht was born November 17, 1928 in Stillwater, NJ, the son of the late Lewis and Rachael Knecht.
He was a lifetime Owner/Operator with Allied Van Lines until his retirement.
Herbert enjoyed mechanics and restoring old cars and was a long time member of Audubon-Parkside Masonic Lodge 218 of Audubon, NJ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Orpha in 2004; a daughter, Nancy; four brothers; and two sisters.
He is survived by two daughters, Linda G. Holonia (Paul) of Audubon, NJ and Deborah L. Roussell of Clayton, DE; two sisters, Trudy Simpson (Charles) of Sussex, NJ and Margaret Strunk (Ben) of Washington, NJ; seven grandchildren, Rachel (John), Jason, Joshua, Steven, Rebekah (Russ), Michael and his fiancée Tiffany, and Sharon; twelve great grandchildren, Colin, Derek, Samantha, Steven Jr., Abigail, Natalie, Elijah, Paige, Michael Jr., Mikey, Ana, and Zachary.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2012 from 10 to 11 a.m., in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Smyrna, DE.
