  • George E. Scuse Sr. of Smyrna, DE, passed away peacefully on his birthday at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at the age of 76.

  • George E. Scuse Sr. of Smyrna, DE, passed away peacefully on his birthday at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 9, 2012 at the age of 76.
    Mr. Scuse was born the son of the late Clarence Scuse Sr. and Ora Scuse.
    He graduated from Smyrna High School in 1956 and served in the United States Army in the tank battalion.
    George worked for Chrysler and Suburban Propane for several years and then went on to work for the City of Dover Police Department as a Police Officer for 14 years before opening his own General Contracting Business, George E. Scuse & Sons. He retired from the business in 1999 to enjoy his family, grandchildren, and time on the farm.
    Mr. Scuse was a past president of the FOP Lodge #3. He served on the board of Southern States Smyrna-Clayton Coop. He also served 16 years on the Kent County Building Code Committee. He was a member and past president of Mid-Atlantic Haflinger Association and was an honorary lifetime member of Citizens' Hose Fire Company.
    In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Clarence T. Scuse Jr.; a sister, Maude Lucks; and a granddaughter, Kasie Nicole Solloway.
    He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Renee Stevens Scuse; two sons, George Jr. and his wife Shelley, and Larry and his wife Jane; a daughter, Lisa Scuse Solloway and her husband Robbie; and his seven grandchildren, who were his pride and joy: Morgan, Steven, Ryan, Tayler, Jenna, Alivia, and Wade.
    A viewing will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Faries Funeral Chapel, located at 29 S. Main St., Smyrna, Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Smyrna, DE.
