Smyrna Town Council will consider and possibly vote on establishing a budget and a funding mechanism for the police building expansion Monday, Aug. 20 at their council meeting.
The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. at Smyrna Town Hall on South Market Street Plaza. There is a public hearing at 7:15 p.m. in reference to an amendment with the town's comprehensive plan.
The item for the police station comes off the heels of Smyrna Council voting to move forward with the police building expansion at their Aug. 6 meeting; In the same motion, council approved for Town Manager Dave Hugg to apply for USDA funding for the project. Hugg had only recently been made aware that the state USDA office has a $4.2 million loan available with an interest rate of 3.5 percent over 40 years.
Under "Old Business," council will consider and vote on a zoning amendment regarding a limited manufacturing district, and present and possibly vote on oversight policies and procedures for town committees.
Under "New Business," council will consider and possibly vote on designating the Recording Secretary as the FOIA coordinator, propose and vote on changing the name of the Police Building Review Committee to Police Building Committee, and consideration and possible vote on a PNC Borrowing Resolution for the water line extension project north of Duck Creek.
