Smyrna woman Ashleigh Close, 26, was found dead early Monday morning in her New Castle apartment.

New Castle County Police are currently investigating the death of a Smyrna woman that occurred early Monday morning in the Pine Valley Apartment complex in New Castle.

Police have identified the woman as 26-year-old Ashleigh Close. The incident is being investigated as a homicide.

On Monday, Sept. 10 at 12:30 a.m., County Police, Paramedics (2D) and ambulance personnel from the Wilmington Manor Fire Company responded to the 500 block of South DuPont Highway for an unresponsive female. When emergency personnel arrived, they entered the apartment and found a female subject apparently deceased, police said. The victim was tended to by paramedics and later pronounced dead at the scene.

Multiple units responded to the scene and immediately set up a perimeter, and then began canvassing the surrounding area in an attempt to gather information and locate possible suspects.

Investigators are currently collecting evidence and conducting interviews in reference to the incident. Her body has been turned over to the Delaware State Medical Examiner's Office where the manner and cause of death will be determined.
