  • Clayton resident Lynne Newlin overtook her Democratic opponent Dave Brown 582 to 294 to win the Democratic Primary Tuesday for the recently moved 11th District Representative.
She won with 66 percent of the vote and with six of the eight polling locations including Townsend, Blackbird, Kenton and Marydel. Brown won the polling locations in Hartly and Camden-Wyoming.
Newlin and Brown were facing off to be the Democratic candidate for the 11th District, which was moved from the Wilmington area to the western portions of Kent and New Castle counties as a result of last year's redistricting process.
Prior to winning the primary, Newlin said if she were to be fortunate enough to win she would "hit the ground running going into the general election."
Newlin will now face off against Republican Jeffrey Spiegelman and Libertarian Margaret McKeown in the Tuesday, Nov. 6 General Election.
A native of Kent County, Newlin is the president of the Smyrna School Board and is the information technologies manager at the University of Delaware.
With a passion of serving, Newlin thinks the 11th District is a great opportunity to bring a new voice to the General Assembly and she hopes to be that voice. If elected, Newlin will fight for quality education, good-paying jobs for residents, the district's rural character and services for senior citizens and veterans.
"I know what's important in our community, both in Kent County as well as New Castle County," Newlin previously said. "I live in a community with a diverse workforce perspective as well as from an economic perspective, and I feel that I am a good candidate to represent the entire area."
