The Smyrna High boys soccer team opened their season at home Tuesday night with a 2-1 win over Lake Forest.
The game proved to be one of strong defense, especially in the second half as all three goals were scored in the first 45 minutes.
Smyrna senior Dane Teel scored the Eagles first goal at the 30-minute mark with an assist by Robbie McKeldin. Just three minutes later the Spartans bounced back with a goal of their own as Ryan Sipple scored a goal on an assist by Tyler Cauthren.
The 1-1 tie didn't last long as five minutes later Smyrna's Adolphus Crawford scored the third and final goal of the game with an assist by Andrew Gilbert. With the score 2-1, the remainder of the game was a battle of the strongest defense.
Smyrna had 20 shots in the game and 6 corner kicks. Goal keeper Jacob Stoner had four saves.
Next up for the Eagles is a game at home Thursday against Woodbridge at 6 p.m.
