  • The Delaware State Police Explorers program will have an open house Monday, Sept. 24 in Odessa with the hope of recruiting young men and women who have an interest in law enforcement.
The open house will be at Troop 9 in Odessa at 7 p.m.
The Explorers program participates in fingerprinting young children at community events, works with the missing children's area at the Delaware State Fair and more. The program also offers opportunities for the National Law Enforcement Exploring Conference and the Federal Leadership Academies.
Students involved in the program learn about police procedures including fingerprinting, evidence collection, and patrol procedures. The program strives to lead participants down the right path so they can stand as positive role models. The goal is to instill leadership, responsibility, integrity and commitment.
Participants must be 14 to 20 years old, mature, clean cut, clean-shaven, no criminal convictions, at least a freshman in high school, and have a minimum grade point average of 2.0.
Individuals under the age of 18 must bring a parent or legal guardian, a $40 program fee and a copy of last school year's grades.
Interested individuals in the Smyrna-Clayton area should call Ginger Barkley at 653-5971.
