Third grade students at Clayton Elementary honored veterans Nov. 7 with a breakfast and ceremony at the school.

Veterans Day is Nov. 11 each year.

Through songs and special messages written by some of the students, the students explained to veterans why they are so important. Following their version of "God Bless the USA," the third graders gave a big thank you to the veterans in the audience.

Principal Mike Dulin and several local government officials spoke of their appreciation of soldiers and veterans. Dulin said when the school first started the program, about 14 veterans came out but that number has risen to 88 this year.
