The Town of Smyrna committees updated Smyrna Town Council during the Nov. 5 council meeting.

Long Range Planning

Committee Chairman Jeff Flairty said the committee is continuing to work with the state on the Route 13 corridor study and is trying to decide the steps the town needs to take. The committee will present a recommendation to council close after the start of next year, Flairty said.

The next meeting is Monday, Nov. 19 at 5:30 p.m. in the conference room of Town Hall.

Utility Committee

Committee Chairman Bob Johnson went over the agenda items for their next meeting, which was Nov. 7. The items discussed included the town collars, smart meters, the town's yard waste process, and electric rates. Johnson also reminded citizens to check their water lines for leaks, because some residents have had issues with increased water bills due to water systems leaking or constantly running.

Library Advisory Board

Councilwoman Regina Brown said there was a library awareness program planned for Nov. 15 that would feature a member of the board, the library director, and the Smyrna Public Library Guild. The purpose was to answer questions regarding the needs of the library and any other questions regarding the plans for a new library. But the panel will be rescheduled.

Board Chairman Alice Hohman also noted that the group will now meet the second Tuesday of each month rather than the third Tuesday of each month.

The board will meet today, Nov. 13 at 3 p.m.

Shade Tree Commission

Chairperson Joanne Masten said the group has placed 12 pots with boxwoods on West Commerce Street and they hope to also put pansies with the boxwoods to "beautify downtown."

Their next meeting is Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 5 p.m. in the conference room.
