  • On Saturday, Dec. 8, Smyrna High School will hold its 4th annual Grinchapalooza fundraiser featuring a 5K run, 1 mile walk, volleyball tournament, and book sale.
There are several events scheduled throughout the morning. The public is invited to attend them.
    5K run/1 mile walk
Sign-ups for the 5K run and mile walk begin at 8 a.m., at the football stadium field house behind the high school. The start time for the race is 9 a.m. The donation for race participation is a minimum of $15. T-shirts will be guaranteed to the first 100 who register. Those who register on-site will receive t-shirts as supplies permit.
Bring your dog! There will be a pet costume contest. The additional cost is $5 for each pet with paid participation. PLEASE NOTE: Dogs will only be able to take part in the walk, not the run.
    Volleyball tournament
A SHS student volleyball tournament is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. The student body of Smyrna High will compete in a 12 team single elimination co-ed volleyball tournament.
Used book sale in school lobby
A used book sale will take place from 9 a.m. until noon just inside the front doors of the high school. The cost is $1 per book with the exception of "selected" children's books which will be "buy one – get one free."Members of the public are invited to donate books for the sale. They may be dropped off at the SHS main office up to and including the day of the sale. Hand crocheted "bookworm" bookmarks in a wide range of colors will also be available for $1 each.
Fundraiser for scholarships, local families in need
The purposes for the Grinchapalooza activities are two-fold. The money raised from these events finances the Lori Robinson Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded annually to deserving seniors who plans to major in education or have showed exemplary community service. The award is named after a Librarian of SHS who passed while in service of the Smyrna High School student body. In addition to the scholarship, other proceeds are used to help a designated local family in need of financial assistance.
For more information or to make a donation, contact Marc Deisem, Maura Schaffer or Diane Abernathy at Smyrna High School at 653-8581.
