Driver involved in fatal Smyrna Route 1 crash in October charged

Delaware State Police have charged the driver involved in the Oct. 8 fatal crash on Route 1 in Smyrna.

Goldwire Jackson, 63, of Wilmington, was operating a 2004 Hino panel truck on St. Rt. 1 southbound. For an unknown reason, the vehicle drifted onto the right shoulder and struck a parked camper, police said. The collision killed Michael G. Stigler, 37, of New Castle, who was a passenger in the panel truck operated by Jackson. The two individuals in the camper - Anthony and Kyong Zeigler, of Pennsylvania - were not injured in the accident.

On December 4 Jackson came to Troop 2 where he was charged with operation of a vehicle causing death of another person. He was released on $1,000 unsecured bond.
