Families and residents looking for something to do this weekend will have several Christmas events to choose from in Smyrna, as the Duck Creek Historical Society is hosting a Christmas Open House Saturday at the Smyrna Museum, and the Smyrna Downtown Renaissance Association is hosting a Holiday Walking Tour Sunday of historic downtown Smyrna.
1. Christmas Open House and Civil War Exhibit at the Smyrna Museum. Take a tour of the brick two-story house located on 11 South Main Street, which was built in the 1790's. The Plank House out back was built in the early 1700's. The Duck Creek Horticultural Society has decorated the two buildings for the holidays. Enjoy some refreshments while taking in the history of Smyrna.
Why you should go? The event is being done in preparation for the Historical Society's upcoming Civil War re-enactment event of the war's lottery draft, slated for next year. So it's a few hours of Christmas decorations and a history of Smyrna — what a great way to spend a portion of your Saturday.
2.Holiday Walking Tour of Historic Downtown Smyrna. Catch the Christmas spirit and get ideas for your own decorations on this self-guided tour of downtown Smyrna. There will be roughly seven houses on the tour, some of which will have exterior decorations while some homeowners have decorated inside. Donations to support the façade and business grant programs will be accepted. Refreshments and a list of homes on the tour will be at the Smyrna Museum.
