  • SMYRNA — Two duck hunters were rescued after their small boat capsized near Woodland Beach just east of Smyrna on Dec. 27.
Mario F. Cipolla, 36, of New Castle, and Kenneth Tolite, 24, of Wilmington were found around 9:30 a.m. by DNREC Fish and Wildlife Enforcement agents. Emergency personnel arrived and treated the men for hypothermia. Both men did have life jackets, but weren't wearing them when their boat flipped. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
Cipolla was cited for hunting with an unplugged shotgun. No other charges have been filed.
The Delaware Office of Boating Safety reminds boaters to prepare for winter weather by dressing appropriately, carrying multiple means of communication, purchasing a personal position locator beacon and locator light, using whistles and flares to attraction attention and keeping blankets on board.
