  • A Smyrna man has been cited for inattentive driving after causing a car accident that injured an elderly Pennsylvania couple Sunday in a three-vehicle crash just north of Milford.
Patricia Campbell, 77, and her 78-year-old husband H. Albert, both of Millerstown, Pa., were taken to Milford Memorial Hospital, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
The crash occurred on southbound Bay Road at the Thompsonville Road intersection about 1:24 p.m.
Police said Steven Popa, 33, of Smyrna, was driving a 2007 Peterbilt tractor-trailer in the right lane of southbound Bay Road and failed to notice traffic slowing to a stop for a red light at Thompsonville Road.
The tractor-trailer rear-ended the Campbell's minivan, which in turn rear-ended a 2008 Nissan Xterra driven by 51-year-old Barbara Allen of Greensboro, Md.
The collision forced all three vehicles off the west side of the roadway, police said.
Popa, Allen and Allen's passenger, a 10-year-old girl from Lincoln, were not injured in the crash.
All those involved in the crash were properly restrained, police said.
Popa later was cited for inattentive driving.
The southbound lanes of Bay Road, north of Thompsonville Road, were closed for about 90 minutes as police investigated the crash and cleared the scene.
