Brionna Johnson is a typical 17-year old senior at Smyrna High School, who's a good student and who's favorite basketball team is the Oklahoma City Thunder. After practice and after her schoolwork is completed she enjoys watching the play of NBA star Kevin Durant. But when it's her turn on the court, Brionna works hard and hopes to contribute to the success her team has enjoyed so far this season.
The undefeated Lady Eagles are averaging more than 66 points per game through the first eight games and Brionna is averaging nearly 18 points per game in addition to playing a strong defensive game.
Johnson said she's been playing organized basketball since middle school, and hopes to go to college and play at the next level, "but right now I want to keep working hard and help this team be successful," she said.
Johsnon said her favorite game this season was against Henlopen Conference rival Caesar Rodney. "That was a good tough, physical game, and I like to play physical. Also it was a great game because we blew them out on their own court, and it's tough to beat any team on their court," she said.
Johnson said her toughest game this season was against Cape Henlopen, "That's because that was a very tough, physical game and it was a very intense game and we also won that game."
Smyrna coach Rachel Woodall said that she is excited to have a player of Johnson's ability on the team this year. "Brionna works on in practice and that shows on the court. She and her fellow seniors have provided a great deal of leadership to the team this season," said Woodall.
