  • The Delaware State Police are investigating a Sunday evening crash involving a pedestrian west of Woodland Beach.
The incident occurred Sunday evening around 8:18 p.m. as Katie Sue Janson, 28, of Smyrna, was operating a 1998 Dodge Caravan westbound on Woodland Beach Road just west of Delaware Avenue when George A. Prentice, 48, of New Castle, entered into the roadway after he emerged from the phragmites. Janson attempted to avoid striking Prentice by swerving to the left, but ultimately struck him with the right front of her van. Janson was able to bring her vehicle to a controlled stop and notify 911 of the crash.
Prentice was removed from the scene by EMS and transported to Kent General Hospital where he was admitted due to his injuries. He was cited for Drunk on the Highway.
Janson and her two young sons, who were properly restrained, were not injured in the crash.
Woodland Beach Road was closed for approximately an hour as the crash was investigated and cleared.
