  • The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a single vehicle fatal accident that occurred Monday night west of Clayton.
Police said the incident occurred at approximately at 11:25 p.m. Monday night as John Serwinski Jr., 55, of Clayton, was operating a 2003 Chevy Astro Van westbound on Millington Road just west of Alley Corner Road.
As the vehicle entered into a slight left turn in the roadway, the operator lost control of the van causing it to spin counterclockwise before leaving the south side of the roadway. Police said the van continued in a south westerly direction striking residential trees and landscaping, which caused it to roll numerous times and strike two more trees before coming to a stop. The Astro van then became engulfed in flames.
Police said Serwinski, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident. The roadway was closed for approximately two hours while the crash was investigated and cleared. Police said weather conditions and alcohol may have been contributing factors in this crash.
