  • State Police investigate Smyrna home invasion, assault

  • The Delaware State Police are investigating a Smyrna home invasion and assault that has left a 38-year-old male with non- life threatening injuries.
    Police said the preliminary investigation has determined that the incident occurred on Friday at approximately 11:40 p.m., as the 38-year-old male resident was inside of his house located in the first block of Hedgerow Hollow Road in Smyrna when he heard someone knocking on his front door. The victim opened the door and was greeted by a male suspect who utilizing a ruse, stated that his vehicle had slid into the victim's car in front of the house causing damage. As the victim exited the residence to investigate the damage, he was confronted by a second suspect. Police said both suspects produced and displayed handguns and demanded money from the victim. The victim complied and turned over an undisclosed amount of cash and a written prescription for medication to the suspects.
    Both suspects then escorted the victim back into the residence and demanded more money. A physical confrontation between the victim and the suspects ensued with the victim being struck in the head with the handguns, police said. The suspects then fled the residence on foot in an unknown direction.
    The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Treatment status and disposition were unknown at the time of this release.
    Detectives have determined through an investigation that this was not a random act, and the victim was targeted in the home invasion.
    The first suspect is described as being a black male, age unknown, 6'05", 300-330 lbs., and was last seen wearing a dark jacket with a hood pulled over his head to disguise identity.
    The second suspect is described as being a black male, age unknown, 5'10", stocky build, and was last seen wearing all black clothing with a hood pulled over his head to disguise identity.
    Both suspects were armed with an unknown type handgun.
