Smyrna Police contacted a residence on West Mount Vernon Street Jan. 19 at 10:03 a.m. in reference to stolen property that belonged at that location.

Upon making contact with the resident, it was discovered that his vehicle had been stolen. Police later located the vehicle and stopped the driver. After making contact with the occupants of the vehicle, police located suspected marijuana in the driver's pocket and a throwing style knife with an 8-inch blade on the juvenile passenger, police said. Police also recovered a .380 caliber handgun from under the seat.

Mark J. Humbertson, 18, of Clayton, was transported to the Smyrna Police Department where he was charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, receiving stolen property and possession of marijuana.

Humbertson was presented at Justice of the Peace Court No. 7 via videophone and committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in default of a $20,250 secured bond.

The juvenile was released to his mother without being charged for the knife.
