  • The Smyrna Opera House will host the opening night performance of its popular vocal talent competition "Smyrna's Got Voice – Kids Rock!" on Feb. 23.
The exciting competition, based on the hit television series, "American Idol", will feature a group of 14 singers between the ages of 10 to 17 from throughout central and southern Delaware, including: Middletown, Townsend, Smyrna, Clayton, Dover, Camden, Magnolia and Lewes.
David Keller, the Opera House executive director notes, "This season's Smyrna's Got Voice competition will only feature young people. The Programs Committee wanted to switch things up again and we have had a lot of kids express interest in participating so we decided to strictly feature children. The talent this year is amazing and our young singers are looking forward to showcasing their vocal chops. Please come out and support the kids!"
In round one, each performer will have an opportunity to sing one vocal selection that best showcases their voice. After each performance a panel of three judges will provide constructive criticism and helpful suggestions. The panel includes: Barbara Bigelow, Scot McClymont and David Thomas, who also will be providing the musical entertainment, while votes are being tallied. Audience members vote to see who moves on to round two.
This program is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and by donations from a broad base of public agencies, corporations and individual supporters.
